THE PROBLEM

An awkward layout left a cluttered space the homeowner hated to let guests see.

THE SOLUTION

Serene greens banished the blues, and an ivory soaker tub and walk-in shower replaced a worn-out blue bathtub and unusable hand-held shower.

HOW IT HAPPENED

• a wall of 1-inch iridescent mosaic tile was set in shades that form a large-scale damask pattern to create a visual focal point when you walk into the room.

• a brilliant crystal chandelier was placed over the soaker tub. a soft-fabric blind and pleated ivory linen valance create the illusion of a larger window above.

• Towels are kept toasty on a wall rack that heats the room.

• The new vanity across from the tub has a white quartz countertop and cut-glass vessel sink. Light maple cabinets provide plenty of storage.

• a tankless electric "hatbox" toilet fits into the small space.

BEST TRICK

The frameless glass walk-in shower enclosure keeps the space light and airy while separating the shower bench from the tub deck.
